The Alpine Tundra
If you live near the Flagstaff, Arizona area, you're in luck! An increible biome experience is just north of where you live! You can find the alpine tundra biome in the uppermost slopes of Mt. Agassiz and Mt. Humphreys atop the San Francisco Peaks. Now what is the alpine tundra? The alpine tundra is of course located north of Flagstaff like I mentioned earlier, and it is also known to be a mountainous area that usually has low tempratures.
There are three major type of communities in the alpine tundra, and we are going to start off with the mammal community. The mammal community consisits of various different types of animals. To start off, there are elks roaming around the alpine tundra. They tend to go higher up in the mountains during summer time and lower down in the mountains during winter times to collect the food that they need. They are one of the biggest mammals in this area and they mostly eat different grasses, shrubs, and forbes.
