Mammals located in the alpine tundra.
The mammal community consisits of various different types of animals. To start off, there are elks roaming around the alpine tundra. They tend to go higher up in the mountains during summer time and lower down in the mountains during winter times to collect the food that they need. They are one of the biggest mammals in this area and they mostly eat different grasses, shrubs, and forbes.
Another type of mammal that lives in this area is the species of pikas. Pikas are a small mammal species that lives higher up in the mountains. They do not hibernate but do collect many plants throughout the summer time to store for the winter, to make the process of getting food easier during the winter time. Climate change causes them to occasionally move up higher in the mountains for their survival.
The final mammal I will mention is the yellow-bellied marmot. This species is known to be a species of omnivores that eat grasses, flowers, insects, and even bird eggs. These marmots are also a species that hibernates throughout the winter.
